Micro-finance project
Following the rescue and recovery efforts, it is now time for long-term mitigation and rehabilitation.  Various programs have been evaluated and a micro-financing program is one of the most promising options that came up as a means of helping people to rebuild their lives and livelihood.

In order to do the assessment for the micro-finance project, a trip was carried out to Than Date village, Dedaye on 05 October.

Location: Than Date village, Dedaye Township
Loan Amount: 2,800,000 kyats (700,000 kyats for each member)
Time frame: October 2008 to January 2010 (16 months)
Type of business: Shop keeping (grocery, housewares, accessories, etc)

Activity Report 23 (Dedaye)

How the Villages were selected
The data for Leik Kyun Village was provided by local NGO network and Thin Paung Chaung Village was selected based on the information provided by Searcher Myanmar volunteer group. 

Based on the available funds, only 73 sacks of fertilizers for 73 acres of farming land could be donated.

Reconstruction efforts of Gaygu Village
Gaygu, which was affected by the storm Nargis, is situated in the south west of Phyarpon and very close to Bogale township border. Through 25 feet canal, it takes 1.5 hours to reach there by small boat. Under the Gaygu village tracts, there are 4 villages and about 412 households.

After the storm, some of the houses were repaired, rebuilt with the leftover thatch or borrowed from the neighbors, however,many would only be adequate for temporary use. VIllagers whose houses were totally destroyed have had to stay with their relatives and neighbors.
